Arden Results

Well another fantastic tournament organised by Arden, with a total of 205 players! The live entertainment on Saturday night (and into the early hours of Sunday morning!) was a particular highlight.

With the exception of A grade, Kent put out a team or section in every division. In fact, we fielded two C grade teams. Well done to everybody - you all played really well. Particular mention must go to Tom Witchell who got best no. 3 in the B grade, Katie Marsh for best no. 3 in E grade, and the D Graders who were runners up, after a very close match against Solent which could have gone either way!

Solent Tournament Cancelled. Practice instead.

I'm afraid that we've just heard that Solent has been cancelled due to lack of entries (largely due to the requirement for up to date flu and tet jabs). Apologies to those who were planning on going... Will leave Mikey to advise if there will be a practice that weekend.
posted by Nicki Robinson.

Yes there should be a practice then. It will be the weekend before Arden.

Welsh Dragon Results

Congratulations to both our teams for their efforts at Usk!

Team 1 (the B Graders) won both their games on Saturday and then had a tough game on Sunday against Solent which they won! Congratulations to Sammy Rowden for winning Best Horse/Rider Combination.

Team 2 (the C/D Graders) weren't so lucky, but played some excellent polocrosse and visibly improved throughout the weekend.

Thanks go to Kim Lampard, Captain of the B side, who provided some worthwhile coaching and tips!

Kent Tournament postponed

As a result of all the recent rain, our pitches are waterlogged and currently unplayable. Richard Hillier has expressed serious concerns that the pitches and the camping field will not dry out sufficiently in time for our planned tournament on May 17/18 th.

In addition, because we have so far been unable to get on the pitches, and will again not be able to practice on them this weekend , the committee feels that it would be too early to stage a tournament after, at most, just one practice on grass. With fresh horses on the grass for the first time this year, some new members who have only ever done sand school practices this is not the ideal preparation.

Because tournament preparations would need to begin this weekend, we have decided to make this decision now rather than waiting until the last minute.

So, after much debate and with regret, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the tournament until later in the season. We hope that this will prove of more benefit to the club as members will have had more of a chance to get their horses competition fit and back into the swing of playing, benefit from some coaching and start to form some playing partnerships.

We intend to get on the pitches as soon as possible, and have a good coaching session and training chukkas that Sunday instead. And we have already started discussions on when to reschedule the tournament.

We hope this does not cause you too much disappointment, and look forward to seeing you out on the grass soon.

Training day postponed / changed

Hi All,

We had a lot of rain yesterday and over the weekend at Risebridge. After much debate last night, we have decided that even if the weather dries out for the next few days that the pitches will not be playable at the weekend, as they are really waterlogged. Its a real pain, as we had a great day lined up, with Guy, Kerry and Webby coaching but we will be rearranging the coaching day for after the Test Matches (but before the nationals!).

We will still be having some sessions in the sandschool with Webby and possibly Oscar dependant on how many people still want to come. Parking will be limited but on the hard standing. Here is the list of people I orginally had coming, please let me know if you are still interested and we will organise the day/sessions around the people that want to come.

I totally understand for those of you that are travelling a longer distance that you may want to pull out if the sessions are in the sandschool - ofcourse all monies already paid will be refunded if this is the case. The cost of the day will also be reviewed once we know what is happening.

Normal Kent practice will begin the following weekend on the Sunday 4th May at 11.30 (again weather dependant but the pitches should be OK by then) for those that are not going to the Doncaster tournament. If you would like to go to the Doncaster tournament, please see attached flyer and entry form.

Any questions give me a shout and do let me know if you are still interested.

Thanks
Soph

Training day, 27th April.

Training day : 27th April, please note only open to Solent , Kent and Western Phoenix clubs due to number restrictions.

Heres some more details and an entry form for our training day on the 27th. Basically we will have coaching sessions in the morning, a BBQ lunch (please bring your own meat) followed by fun chukkas in the afternoon. Its quite a lot to squeeze in the morning, so if we could start as close to 9.30 as possible that would be great. If you are coming a fair distance, you are welcome to come across on the Saturday night and camp if it makes things easier.

Please forward to anyone you think might be interested - its a great oppotunity to get some beginners interested or to bring new/young horses to. You must be either a UKPA member or a pony club member to attend. If you know of any beginners that would like to come but dont want to fully join the UKPA as they are not looking to play at tournaments, they are trying out a new 'non competitive' membership this year that could be applicable. Please contact Sophie Harding for more details on this.

If you would like to come to the training weekend, please fill in the entry form with payment - the sooner I can know on numbers the quicker we can get organised.

Coaches : Jason Webb , Guy Robertson, Oscar Harding

Coaching Update

Despite our best efforts to secure an overseas 'permanent' coach for this year, we have been unable to do so as yet, although this avenue is not closed. Plan B is to revert to a mixture of other coaches coming to do one off coaching sessions with us and we are now contacting coaches for this. There is also the chance of having Shaye Williams for a shorter period during the middle of the season as well as another extremely good coach partly through the season. So all is not lost, but it will be a bit more of a mixture this year than to what we are used to. And on some occasions senior players may have to do a bit of coaching.

Website Updated

Welcome to the new , revamped website.

Whats new ?
New styling.

The news on the front page can come from a blog. So Sophie, our secretary, can blog away and her news will appear on the front page without me doing anything.

Diary, powered by Google Calendar - again more interactive allowing Sophie, and some other members of the club to login and update information on the Diary pages themselves.

Photo gallery is based on Flickr. Phillipa can upload photos to her hearts content and again, these changes will be reflected automatically. I was very bad on uploading photos so this should help.

So the basic theme is to provide tools to allow others to help keep this website up to date.
